Sharon Latson-Flemister

Sharon Latson-Flemister is a publicist and public relations professional with over 30 years’ experience in the industry. Sharon is the founder of Sankofa Group Communications (SGC), a multifaceted communications company based in Chicago, IL. SGC’s current and former clients include authors, filmmakers, artists and non-profit organizations, amongst others. As a respected expert in the PR world, Sharon’s strengths lie in building solid client relationships, developing creative and innovative campaigns and generating relevant media attention for every project she touches.
Sharon has an in-depth understanding of her clients’ needs and provides strong leadership to the SGC team. In other roles outside of SGC, Sharon was an Account Executive for the Marketing and PR campaign of the critically-acclaimed PBS series On Our Own Terms: Moyers on Dying. Sharon also served as Co-principal Investigator and Project Manager for an $850,000 grant funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Sharon was a Consultant to the Duke Institute on Care at the End of Life and served on the Board of the Foundation for Hospices in Sub Saharan Africa.
In 2012, Sharon coordinated the national publicity for the Lucasfilm’s production Red Tails. Sharon received a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Marketing from Columbia College and received a Master of Science in Communications from Northwestern University. Sharon and her husband Ted currently reside in Chicago’s Beverly community and are active supporters of the Beverly Arts Center.
